deadlift for strength
The deadlift. To me is the best pure brute strength building lift. Forget the bench even though everyone always wants to know what's your bench? There's not a muscle that the deadlift does not incorporate when done properly. Which means if you use lighter weights and higher reps. You are going to burn a lot of calories, because your whole body will be working to get the lift done. This reason is also why the deadlift is the single best strength builder. I know people will argue that the squat is the best, but I think that the deadlift involves more muscle to be done properly. To properly perform a deadlift grab the bar. I like to grab the bar so my thumbs are touching the outside of my leg. Now keep your head up and your butt down, Stand up keeping the bar nice and close to your body. Keeping your head up and your butt down will keep your back nice and straight. Injuries start to occur when you are rounding your back. A little trick that's always helped me was to get a little platform maybe 3 1/2" high and perform the deadlifts of it. This will cause you to use your legs first and not your back.
